My makeup motto is: Heavy on the skincare, light on the makeup.
I’m Mariah, a makeup artist who started out as an artist. In 2019 I decided to trade paper for faces.
My real interest in fashion was ignited at Blanche MacDonald, in a fashion history course that covered the icons of each decade: Josephine Baker in the 20s, Twiggy in the 60s, Cher in the 70s. Growing up in a house full of antiques, classic films, and old music, I already knew them all (and as a Leo, the one thing that adds fuel to the fire is being right). That love of fashion history, artistry, and storytelling still drives my work today.
After school I moved back to Calgary from Vancouver, which was a heartbreak and a half at the time, but it put me in the room with incredibly talented makeup artists and photographers, and I learnt a ton working photoshoots, fashion shows, and commercial campaigns.
That experience, combined with my own journey with adult acne, gave me a deep appreciation for skincare and for makeup that works with skin instead of against it. I love creating fresh, radiant looks that let your skin shine through & enhance your features without ever masking who you are.
When I’m not working, I’m probably cooking up a storm, replaying the Dirty Dancing soundtrack for the millionth time, or getting lost on a hike somewhere.
